Saama Salim-Hussain is a Software Business Analyst by day, and serves as a multi-role team member at Shetu by night. Saama grew up in the vibrant cultures of both Dhaka and New York. Having lived in Bangladesh for about nine years, she became aware of how culture gap played a crucial role in hindering socio-economic participation among immigrants- and that was her “aha! moment” of wanting to become more socially responsible, and give back to the community that had nurtured her.
Saama completed her Bachelors in Biochemistry and Economics from CUNY Hunter College, and believes there is much more to life than just comfortably breadwinning and getting by. Saama’s passion resides in working with underserved communities to reduce various socio-economic and cultural barriers, and enabling them to live more active, fuller lives. Saama has extensive experience in civic engagement program research and development, and has worked with various South Asian immigrant communities, actively engaging in community outreach and education. At the NYU Langone’s Center for the Study of Asian American Health in NYC, Saama had worked with minority communities, participating in public health research, and collecting public health data that was previously undocumented for community health needs assessments.
Apart from working tirelessly help bring her dream one step closer to reality, Saama is also an avid traveler and enjoys poetry. She also loves anything mocha-flavored, Benedict Cumberbatch and rom-coms.
