DO YOU KNOW AN ELDERLY PERSON 50 YEARS OR OLDER?
JOIN SHETU AND COUNCIL MEMBER BRAD LANDER TO HEAR ABOUT THE LAUNCHING OF OUR SENIOR INITIATIVE.
Did you know that between 2000-2010, the Bangladeshi immigrant grew by 471%?
(Are South Asians Prepared To Age In America? – Huffpost)
That means, there is a large number of growing Bangladeshi older adults living throughout New York City and this number will only increase over the years. Kensington, Brooklyn is one of the most heavily-populated Bangladeshi neighborhoods in NYC. But Kensington residents have very limited access to culturally appropriate social service programs, and hardly any programs at all that are catered toward the seniors.
In the Bangladeshi culture, our elders are very important individuals in the family and community. We love and respect them because it is both our religious and traditional sacred duty to care and look after them. However, this duty becomes a challenge as we struggle to fulfill our daily needs. So what can we offer to our elders?
Council Member Brad Lander and Shetu care about our seniors, and with this, Shetu Inc. cordially invites you to Kensington’s Bangladeshi Senior Initiatives Launch in Kensington on Friday, March 1st at 6pm. At this event, Shetu will be launching a Needs Assessment Project to identify the needs of Bangladeshi seniors living in the Kensington area. The community data and research from this project will inform on priority services and programs that will be offered by Shetu for the Bangladeshi older adults in the following months. Wewant to hear from you what the seniors need! You are invited to our launching event to learn more about what we can do to take care of our elders.
Please bring friends, family and well-wishers and let’s plan together!
