Rasel Kabir Rahman works as the Director for Queens Community Service Center of NYC Commission of Human Rights. His professional social justice career began in 2010 when he joined South Asian non-profit organization Chhaya CDC, and continued working there for seven years. His most recent role at Chhaya was as the Community Organizing and Advocacy Program Manager. Rasel had previously worked as a reporter for several daily and weekly Bangla newspapers published from USA and Bangladesh. In Bangladesh, he was the youngest District Organizer of World Literature Center, a renowned cultural and linguistic movement that fosters knowledge through reading and cultural activities. He was awarded the President’s Scout Award from Bangladesh Scouts for his exemplary service.
Rasel is the first person in his family to immigrate to the United States. From his birthplace Bangladesh to here in the US, he has been very passionate and committed to building community power through grassroots organizing and resource sharing. As one of the co-founders of Shetu Inc., he is actively leading the organization on all fronts, from fundraising and program development to community organizing.
Queens-resident Rasel likes to take part in theater, enjoys music and attending all kinds of cultural events. During his spare hours, he loves spending time with friends, watching movies and tasting ethnic foods.
